History
Roberto Cosimi planted the first vineyards at Podere Il Poggiolo in 1971, when Brunello had only around twenty-five producers. His son Rodolfo — 'Rudi' — took over in 1989 after his father's early death.
In 2003 the estate was divided when Rudi's brother Renzo returned to Montalcino and took half, founding Poggio dell'Aquila; Rodolfo kept the Il Poggiolo name.
Rudi's wines include the Terra Rossa and the Beato, a differently vinified Brunello that debuted in 1992.
