History

I Veroni is a Chianti Rùfina estate at Pontassieve whose farm buildings date to the late 1500s - the oldest document is from 1582 - when it belonged to the noble Gatteschi family; its name comes from 'verone', the old Tuscan word for a covered terrace atop a country house's outer staircase.

Held over the centuries by the Guidi counts and other Tuscan noble families, the property has belonged to the Malesci family since Lorenzo Mariani's maternal great-grandfather bought it in 1897.

Lorenzo Mariani, the fourth generation, now runs the roughly 50-hectare estate between Pontassieve and Rufina - about 15 hectares of vineyard (11 of Sangiovese) and 30 of olive groves - and makes the traditional Vinsanto del Chianti Rùfina.
