History

The Guicciardini Strozzi estate at Cusona, near San Gimignano, is documented from 994 in a parchment in the Siena state archives, and has made wine there for over a thousand years.

It has long been tied to two great Florentine families — the Guicciardini (Francesco Guicciardini, historian and statesman, for whom the young Machiavelli worked) and the Strozzi (bankers and rivals of the Medici). The family recorded its first Vernaccia di San Gimignano in 1200, a wine praised by Dante and Boccaccio.

Spanning 530 hectares, the estate specialises in Vernaccia alongside red and other white grapes.
