History
In 1998 Donatella Cinelli Colombini left her family's historic Montalcino estate to start her own, comprising Casato in Montalcino and Fattoria del Colle at Trequanda. Her ancestors had held the Casato land since the late 16th century, and her great-grandfather Giovanni Colombini helped found the Brunello consortium.
Unable to hire an experienced (male) cellar master, she staffed the winery entirely with women — making Casato Prime Donne the first all-female winery in Italy.
Its Brunello Prime Donne, first made from the 1993 vintage and selected by an international female panel, is the estate's signature.
