History
Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona traces its roots to the 17th century, when a bishop of Montalcino, abbot of Sant'Antimo, built the estate's Palazzo. In 1877 Francesco Ciacci bought the property from the Church, and the double name came from the marriage of Count Alberto Piccolomini d'Aragona and Elda Ciacci.
When Countess Elda Ciacci died in 1985 she left the estate to her farm manager Giuseppe Bianchini, who had planted the first vineyards in 1983 and that year released the maiden wines — 20,000 bottles of Brunello and 5,000 of Rosso.
Bianchini, three times named winemaker of the year in Siena, died in 2004; his children Paolo and Lucia now run the estate, famed for the Vigna di Pianrosso Brunello.
