History

Tenuta CastelGiocondo grew around a 12th-century stronghold built to guard the road from Siena to the sea, and was a Montalcino pioneer — among the few estates making Sangiovese from the early 1800s.

The Frescobaldi family, who had managed it earlier, bought the estate in 1989, making it a cornerstone of their Tuscan holdings.

Its Brunello is anchored by the single-vineyard Ripe al Convento, from the estate's highest hills at 450 metres.
