History

Bibbiano, at Castellina in Chianti, has origins documented as far back as 1089. The Marzi family acquired the estate in 1865 and has farmed it ever since — five generations — making it one of the oldest Chianti Classico estates in continuous family ownership.

The estate is closely tied to the legacy of the legendary Sangiovese consultant Giulio Gambelli, and is known for traditional, Sangiovese-only Chianti Classico.

Its two slopes give distinct wines: Capannino, southwest-facing, and Montornello, northeast-facing, the basis for its Gran Selezione bottlings. Today it is run by brothers Tommaso and Federico Marrocchesi Marzi.
