History

Nello Baricci, born in Montalcino in 1921, went against the mid-century tide of rural emigration and in 1955 moved from tenant to owner, buying property on Montosoli — reputedly the best hill in Montalcino.

He was the first to register his Brunello vineyards at the Siena Chamber of Commerce, on 10 October 1966, and when the Brunello consortium was founded in 1967 he signed first and received badge no. 1; his first Rosso came in 1968 and first Brunello in 1971.

The estate, still making wine only from Montosoli, is now run by Nello's grandsons Federico and Francesco.
