History
Badia di Morrona takes its name from the Abbey of Morrona at Terricciola, founded in 1089 by Count Ugo dei Cadolingi and long home to Benedictine and Camaldolese monks before becoming the summer residence of the Bishops of Volterra.
Since 1939, when the Gaslini Alberti family bought it, the estate has been developed into one of the leading properties of the Terre di Pisa, spanning 600 hectares of vineyard, olive grove and cypress wood between Pisa and Volterra.
Sangiovese is the backbone of its wines, and Badia di Morrona was among the founders of the Terre di Pisa wine consortium.
