Le Casematte was founded in 2008 by Gianfranco Sabbatino and Andrea Barzagli at Faro Superiore near Messina.

The name recalls three casemates, small military bunkers from the World Wars on the property.

The estate is part of the revival of the small Faro DOC, based on Nerello Mascalese with Nocera.
