History

Capichera, in the granite hills of Gallura near Arzachena, is the estate most responsible for turning Vermentino di Gallura into a prestige, age-worthy white. The Ragnedda family built its reputation from the late 20th century on a richer, more structured, sometimes barrel-influenced style of Vermentino — a departure from the light, everyday island white — that made Capichera a benchmark name.

Farming is on the decomposed-granite soils of north-eastern Sardinia, in the heart of the Gallura appellation, with Vermentino the focus alongside Carignano for the reds. The wines are known for depth, texture and ageability unusual for the variety.

The range runs from the Vermentino di Gallura 'Vign'angena' and the flagship 'Capichera' (a barrel-aged Vermentino released as Isola dei Nuraghi IGT) to the late-harvest 'VT' and the Carignano-based reds 'Assajé' and 'Mantènghja'.
