History
Cantine Argiolas was founded in 1938 by Antonio Argiolas, who began with just 3 hectares at Serdiana, in the Parteolla hills north of Cagliari. At a time when vines were being pulled up across Sardinia, he persisted — travelling to mainland Italy, Argentina and California to learn modern winemaking, and becoming one of the first on the island to pursue quality over quantity. He died in 2009 at the age of 102.
The estate, now led by the second generation (Franco and Giuseppe) and the third, has become the reference producer of southern Sardinia, championing the island's native grapes — Cannonau, Vermentino, Bovale, Nasco and Monica — and making more than 2.5 million bottles a year.
Its most famous wine is Turriga, a barrel-aged Cannonau-based red first created in the late 1970s with the legendary oenologist Giacomo Tachis, released as Isola dei Nuraghi IGT and regarded as one of Sardinia's greatest wines — alongside the Vermentino 'Costamolino' and the Monica 'Perdera'.
