Cantina Gentile

History

Cantina Gentile was founded on 2 February 1960 when a group of 25 farmers, coordinated by Dr. Luca Gentile, united in a cooperative to valorize the local grapes of the Gioia del Colle area; within months membership grew to include growers from Acquaviva, Santeramo, Grumo Appula and Bari.

The winery's founding came in the same era that Primitivo di Gioia del Colle bottling began in earnest, and it has continued as a cooperative producer of Primitivo from the Murgia territory since Primitivo di Gioia del Colle received DOC status in 1987.
