History

Villa Sparina was started in the 1970s when Mario Moccagatta and his wife Bruna took on a farm in the Monterotondo hills of Gavi, in southeastern Piedmont, though the property itself dates to the 18th century.

The family built it into one of Gavi's benchmark estates, dedicating roughly three-quarters of its land to the native Cortese grape, and added a resort with the Ostelliere hotel and La Gallina restaurant.

Today run by siblings Stefano, Tiziana and Massimo Moccagatta, the estate is known for its Gavi, including the single-vineyard Monterotondo cru.
