History
In 1977 Pierino Piantavigna planted the first Nebbiolo vineyard on the hill known as la Torraccia above Ghemme, near the former Cavenago castle.
Alessandro Francoli, of the Luigi Francoli distillery, formally founded Torraccia del Piantavigna in 1997.
Since 2015 the Ponti family of Ghemme has held a significant stake alongside the Francoli family; the estate is the only one owning vineyards in both Ghemme and Gattinara.
