History

Rizzi was set up in 1974 by Ernesto Dellapiana, born in Alba in 1940, who left Turin with his wife Lia in 1973 to farm the family's 18th-century estate on the Rizzi hill at Treiso, in the Barbaresco zone.

The estate expanded steadily — adding the Boito farmhouse in 1984, Manzola in 1997, and three hectares in the Pajorè cru between 2004 and 2018 — growing to 44 hectares and becoming one of the larger, more important estates of Barbaresco.

Ernesto's son Enrico, who finished his oenology studies in 2004, is today the head winemaker, making single-cru Barbaresco from Rizzi, Nervo and Pajorè.
