History
Monchiero Carbone was founded in 1987 when Marco Monchiero, a well-known oenologist, and his wife Lucia Carbone bought a 19th-century farmhouse in Canale, in the heart of the Roero, and began producing wine from vineyards inherited on both sides of the family, whose winemaking roots reach back to the early 1900s.
Their son Francesco took over production from the mid-1990s, adding the native Roero Arneis to the range in 1994 and championing the grape; he became the first president of the Consorzio di Tutela del Roero in 2013.
The estate is known for its Roero Arneis and for Nebbiolo-based Roero reds, alongside the Barbera Mombirone.
