Gavi o Cortese di Gavi DOCG

History

The Spinola have been leading figures around Gavi since the eleventh century, when they were powerful in the city-state of Genoa, always keeping vineyards and a castle at Tassarolo. From 1955 to 2004 their estate sold grapes to the best Gavi producers.

In 2006 Andrea Spinola left a corporate career in Milan and returned to Tassarolo to found Marchese Luca Spinola, making single-vineyard Gavi from about fourteen hectares of organically farmed Cortese across Tassarolo and Gavi — among them the Gavi di Gavi 'Tenuta Massimiliana'.
