History

The Saffirio family's roots reach back some two centuries, when Giovanni Battista Saffirio left the high Langhe for Castelletto di Monforte d'Alba and began making wine; in the early 20th century Ernesto, Josetta's father, tended the vineyards.

In 1973, aged just 23, Josetta Saffirio transformed the family business — then selling grapes to others — into a winery under her own name, starting wine production in 1975 and presenting the first Barolo with her own label in 1985.

Since 2000 her daughter Sara Vezza has led the estate, which farms 100% organically with biodynamic practices and earned sustainability certification in 2015.
