History
The estate at Verduno traces its first commercial wine release to 1830 under the name Fratelli Dabbene. After Clementina Dabbene, the last of that family, married Carlo Alessandria, the winery took the name Fratelli Alessandria in 1870.
Verduno was one of the cradles of dry Barolo-style Nebbiolo, and the estate was recognised early — an 1843 notice records gold medals for its winemaking and for exports. Its holdings include a share of Monvigliero, Verduno's leading south-facing cru.
Now farmed by the seventh and eighth generations, the estate makes Barolo (including Monvigliero), Langhe wines, and the peppery, light-coloured Verduno Pelaverga from a grape all but exclusive to the village.
