History
The estate was founded in 1897 when the 23-year-old economist Luigi Einaudi bought the San Giacomo farm at Dogliani, with 16 hectares of vineyard. Einaudi would go on to become the first popularly elected President of the Italian Republic in 1948.
In 1915 he built a cellar to produce and bottle wine himself rather than sell the grapes, establishing Poderi Luigi Einaudi as a working winery in the heart of Dolcetto country.
Four generations on, the estate is run by great-grandson Matteo Sardagna and works around 60 hectares of vines, with Dogliani Dolcetto alongside Barolo from the Terlo and Cannubi crus.
