History

Giuseppe Cortese, a native of Barbaresco, learned winemaking with his father Giacomo and served as cellar master and vineyard manager at some of Piedmont's leading estates before founding his own winery in 1971, in the Rabajà hamlet.

He built his reputation on the Rabajà cru — the most prized in Barbaresco — making a Barbaresco from it in 1971 and writing 'Rabajà' on the label from 1978; the estate remains the largest owner of the cru.

The next generation, Pier Carlo and his sister Tiziana, now run this small, family estate, with Giuseppe's wife Rosella also active.
