History
The Fontana family has grown wine at Perno, a hamlet of Monforte d'Alba, for six generations since 1820. Grandfather Saverio recognised the potential of the site and of Barolo before the 1950s.
The independent winery Cascina Fontana was established in 1995 by Mario and Luisa Fontana, giving the family estate its own label.
Mario farms about five hectares across some of the finest crus of Castiglione Falletto, La Morra and Sinio, planted to the classic Langhe varieties, and makes traditional, age-worthy Barolo.
