History

Abrigo Giovanni was founded in 1968, when Giovanni Abrigo moved from Treiso to Diano d'Alba and bought the Crava farmhouse — still the family home and cellar. With his wife Maria he worked a typical Langa farm, with cattle, cereals, hazelnuts and Dolcetto vineyards.

From the mid-1980s their son Giorgio, an agronomist, took on the vines with his wife Paola, and the third generation — Giulio and Sergio, both Alba oenology graduates — joined from the 2010s.

The estate's core remains Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba, and from 2013 it added a Barolo from the Ravera cru at Novello.
