History

Plozza Vini began on 19 March 1919, when the 29-year-old Pietro Plozza left his job on the Rhaetian Railway at Brusio, just over the Swiss border near Tirano, to trade in Valtellina wine, later building cellars at Brusio and Tirano.

Pietro was the first winemaker to release Sforzato commercially — recognising its potential in 1946 — and is credited with teaching Nino Negri how to make it.

From 1973 the Zanolari family led the company's modern development while preserving its innovative spirit, with wines like the Sforzato di Valtellina 'Black Edition'.
