History
Cà dei Frati — 'house of the friars', after the Carmelite monks who once tended these vines — has been known since a 1782 document referring to a house with a cellar in the Sirmione district. In 1939 Felice Dal Cero, from a winegrowing family at Montecchia di Crosara near Verona, moved to the house at Lugana di Sirmione, seeing the area's potential.
His son Pietro took part in creating the Lugana DOC in 1969 and bottled the first 'Casa dei Frati', later Cà dei Frati, growing the estate from four hectares to some 200.
After Pietro's death in 2012 the estate is run by his widow Santa Rosa and their children Igino, Gian Franco and Anna Maria.
