History
The hill was renamed Barba Carlo in 1886 in honor of an uncle Carlo who left it to his nephews at the land registry.
Lino Maga made the Barbacarlo and Montebuono wines by hand without chemicals, fermenting in old casks with no temperature control and bottling in spring with nothing added.
From 1970 to 1987 Lino Maga fought and won a legal battle for exclusive use of the Barbacarlo name; his son Giuseppe Maga continues the estate.
