History

Antonio Di Carlo planted the estate's first vineyard at Castelfranco, on the outskirts of Rieti, in 1972, at a time when vineyard land in the area was contracting sharply.

The Di Carlo family winery is built around an ancient underground cellar with remains of pressing and fermentation tanks dating to the 1400s, and the estate has worked to recover the indigenous Cesanese Nero variety from a vine documented in Rieti's agricultural records since 1879.
