History
The Cosmi family began farming at Santa Palomba, on the southern edge of Rome toward the Castelli Romani, in the early 1960s, long selling their grapes to the local cooperatives. When the co-ops fell into crisis at the end of the 1990s, Antonio and Fausto Cosmi decided to vinify their own wine, and in 1999 Casale Certosa was reborn as a private estate.
The name recalls the Carthusian friars who built a convent — a certosa — here in the twelfth century and began working the grapes. Of eighteen hectares, thirteen are vineyard, certified organic in 2004 and moving to biodynamics from 2011, making Roma DOC and Lazio IGT wines.
