History

Cantine San Marco was founded in 1972 when the Puglian winemaker Umberto Notarnicola and the Piedmontese oenologist Bruno Violo met in Frascati and joined forces, building one of the most important private wineries in the province of Rome, at first around Frascati, the area's classic white.

The winery sits on Colle San Marco, from which it takes its name, on volcanic soils between Frascati and Monte Porzio Catone. Fifty years on it is run by the founders' sons, Danilo Notarnicola and Pietro Violo, making Frascati alongside more recent Roma DOC reds and whites such as the Romae line.
