History
Tenuta Villanova was founded on 5 April 1499, when the counts of Strassoldo acquired the estate from the Patriarchate of Aquileia; it is reckoned the oldest winery in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and the Strassoldo ran it for some three centuries.
In 1932 the estate passed to Arnaldo Bennati and, from 1985, to his wife Giuseppina Grossi; it is now led by their grandchildren Francesca and Stefano Grossi. Across about a hundred planted hectares between the Collio hills and the Isonzo plain they make a broad range of Collio and Isonzo varietals, crowned by the native-grape blend named '1499' for the estate's founding year.
