History
Azienda Agricola Denavolo is the personal project of Giulio Armani, founded in 2005 on the slopes of Monte Denavolo in Travo, in the Val Trebbia hills of Piacenza. Armani has been the winemaker at the celebrated natural estate La Stoppa since 1980; Denavolo let him pursue a question La Stoppa's long-aged reds did not answer — why should white wine be treated differently from red?
The answer is skin-contact white wine, which he began exploring in 2001 but which was historically the traditional way of making white here, as his father and grandfather did. The wines are hand-harvested, spontaneously fermented in stainless steel with several months of skin maceration, and bottled unfined, unfiltered and without added sulfur.
The estate is best known for the amber, blend-based 'Dinavolo' (the reserve, from the upper Débé parcel) and the fresher 'Dinavolino' (born 2009), built on Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, Ortrugo and Marsanne — reference points of Italian orange wine, released as Emilia IGT / vino bianco.
