History
Antico Castello is the only winery based in San Mango sul Calore, an Irpinia hill town that was largely rebuilt after the devastating 1980 earthquake; the estate takes its name from a feudal castle that once stood there. The first vineyard was planted around 2000 and the cellar itself was established in 2006 by Franco and Fiorenza Romano.
Since 2009 the estate has been run day to day by siblings Chiara and Francesco Romano, who work alongside their parents. Alongside Taurasi, Fiano and Greco, the family also grows black figs and has revived a nearly-lost local red chestnut variety on the property.
