Cantine Viola

History

Luigi Viola, a Saracena primary-school teacher (born 1941), inherited a vineyard in 1975 and learned the oral passito recipe from his mother, Donna Nuccia.

On retiring in 1999 he founded Cantine Viola to rescue the 16th-century Moscato al Governo di Saracena from disappearance.

It became a Slow Food Presidium in 2004; the whole family (wife Margherita and sons Roberto, Alessandro and Claudio) now takes part.
