Verdeca

Verdeca is a white wine grape native to Puglia, most closely associated with the Valle d'Itria — the trulli country between Bari, Brindisi and Taranto — where it is the principal white variety. It takes its name from the greenish tint of its ripe berries and was historically grown in large quantity as a base for vermouth and sparkling wine.

Verdeca produces light-bodied, crisp dry whites of pale straw-green color with a fairly delicate, citrus, green-apple and herbal character. It is the backbone of the Locorotondo and Martina (Martina Franca) DOC whites, usually blended with Bianco d'Alessano.
