Traminer Aromatico
Also known as Gewürztraminer, Gewurztraminer.
A pink-skinned aromatic grape whose name comes directly from Termeno (German: Tramin), the Alto Adige comune historically most associated with it; "Gewürz" (German for "spice") was added internationally to flag its intensely aromatic character. MASAF's registry (scheda 238, admitted 25/05/1970) records it as a bacca rosa variety with amber-rose skin, official synonym "Gewürztraminer."
Low-vigor and low-yielding, highly sensitive to soil and microclimate, it favors calcareous, clay or marl soils in cool but sunny sites — grown above all in Alto Adige's Bassa Atesina between Termeno and Cortaccia, traditionally on pergola and increasingly on trellis, and also in Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Veneto's flatland IGTs. Wines are straw yellow, sweetly spiced and candied on the nose, aromatic and off-dry to sweet on the palate, with rose, lychee, white flowers, sweet spice, citrus, tropical fruit and balsamic notes.
