← Grapes

Also known as Tuerbat.

Torbato is a white grape now concentrated in north-western Sardinia around Alghero, of western-Mediterranean origin (related to grapes once grown in Roussillon and Spain). It nearly disappeared but was revived, notably by producers around Alghero, and features in the Alghero DOC.

It gives fresh, structured, faintly aromatic dry whites with citrus, white flowers and a mineral, slightly saline character, and is also made into quality sparkling wine (Torbato spumante).
