Tintore

Also known as Tintore di Tramonti.

Tintore is a red grape of the Amalfi Coast, native to the Tramonti area, notable as a teinturier variety with deeply pigmented, red-tinged flesh that gives intensely colored wines. Many of its vines are ungrafted and pre-phylloxera, growing as old bush vines on the Costiera's terraces, and some are of considerable age.

Tintore is used as the coloring backbone (minimum 20%) of the Tramonti sub-zone red and rosato of the Costa d'Amalfi DOC. Detailed varietal measurements are scarce, so most of its characteristics are left unrecorded here rather than estimated.
