Also known as Terrano del Carso, Teran.

Terrano is a red wine grape of the Carso (Kras) above Trieste and the neighbouring Slovenian Kras and Istria (where it is called Teran). It belongs to the Refosco family and is closely related to Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, thriving on the iron-rich red soils of the karst.

Terrano produces deeply colored, high-acid reds of ruby-to-purple hue with sharp red- and dark-fruit, and a characteristic tangy, lactic, sometimes iron-like character; traditionally a vigorous, rustic wine of the Trieste karst, bottled within the Carso DOC.
