Tazzelenghe
Also known as Tacelenghe.
Tazzelenghe is a very rare red wine grape of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, whose name in Friulian means 'tongue-cutter' (taglialingua), a reference to its aggressively high acidity and tannin. It survives only in tiny plantings, kept alive by a few dedicated growers.
Tazzelenghe produces deeply colored, sharply structured reds with very high acidity and firm tannins and dark-cherry and red-fruit character, traditionally softened by long ageing. It is a niche varietal within the Friuli Colli Orientali denomination.
