Spergola

Also known as Sauvignon di Scandiano (historic misnomer).

Spergola is a white grape of the Reggio Emilia hills, long grown around Scandiano and Canossa where it was historically — and misleadingly — called 'Sauvignon di Scandiano' before ampelography confirmed it as a distinct native variety. It is documented in the area since at least the Renaissance.

It gives high-acid whites suited to dry, sparkling and sweet styles, with citrus, white-flower and green-apple character and a crisp finish.
