Sciascinoso

Sciascinoso is a red wine grape native to Campania in southern Italy, where it is also known as Olivella, a name that refers to the olive-like shape of its berries. It is a traditional variety of the Campanian hills and coast, grown across areas such as the Costa d'Amalfi, the Cilento, the Sannio and Irpinia, usually as a minor partner alongside Aglianico and Piedirosso rather than as a stand-alone wine.

Sciascinoso produces ruby-colored reds of medium body with moderate tannins and red-fruit and floral character. Its main role is as a blending grape, adding color and fruit to Campanian red blends, though it also appears as a named varietal in several regional denominations.
