Rebo

Also known as Incrocio Rigotti 107-3.

A crossing of Merlot and Teroldego, named for its breeder Rebo Rigotti (1891-1971), a researcher at the experimental station of San Michele all'Adige (TN), who made the cross around 1920 hoping to find a Merlot substitute for sites less suited to that variety. Catalogued as Incrocio Rigotti 107-3.

Medium, orbicular, tri-to-pentalobate leaves and compact, single-winged, medium-sized clusters give a wine of very intense ruby-red color with violet tones, intense aromas of fruit with light spice notes that gain definition with age, dry, full-bodied, medium-tannin and balanced on the palate thanks to good freshness. Trentino DOC is the only denomination that formally recognizes it, though it has spread beyond Trentino into several of Veneto's eastern IGTs, concentrated around San Michele all'Adige, Volano, Calavino, Cavedine and Padergnone in the Valle dei Laghi.
