Pollera Nera
Also known as Pollera, Pollera Corlaga, Pollera Comune.
An indigenous black grape of the Lunigiana and Cinque Terre, documented since Acerbi's 1825 text placing it in Cinque Terre and the Massa Carrara area, and described by Di Rovasenda in 1877 as a common and highly regarded grape of Cinque Terre and the Cavazza area. Ampelographers traditionally distinguish two types, Pollera Corlaga and Pollera Comune.
Medium-large, cylindrical, winged clusters with medium round berries; delicate, thin skin with heavy grayish-violet bloom. A reliably abundant and consistent yielder. Gives pale, light wines, rarely deeply colored, simple on the nose and palate with red-fruit notes; almost always used in blends, rarely vinified in purity.
Val di Magra's own disciplinare (Art. 1.1/2.1) names the variety simply 'Pollera' — the canonical registered name per MASAF's Registro Nazionale delle Varietà di Vite (Allegato 1, voce 62: 'Pollera Nera N.') is used here, following this rollout's standing practice of recording the register's full canonical name over a disciplinare's shortened local form.
