Picolit

Picolit is a rare white wine grape of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, historically one of Italy's most celebrated dessert wines, prized at European courts in the eighteenth century. It is notorious for its very low and erratic yields, caused by floral abortion ('acinellatura') that leaves its bunches sparse — a natural concentration that helped make its sweet wines legendary and expensive.

Picolit produces golden, elegant sweet wines, usually from partially dried grapes, with delicate floral, apricot, honey and candied-peel aromas and a fine, not-cloying sweetness balanced by freshness. It has its own DOCG, Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit.
