Petit Rouge
Petit Rouge is the most important native red grape of the Aosta Valley, the small Alpine region in Italy's north-western corner. It is the backbone of the valley's traditional reds, above all the Torrette and Enfer d'Arvier sottozone of the Valle d'Aosta / Vallée d'Aoste DOC, and is the parent or relative of several other local varieties.
It gives medium-bodied, fragrant reds with bright red-fruit and floral aromas, herbal and lightly peppery notes, fine tannins and fresh mountain acidity — approachable, high-altitude wines that express the valley's steep terraced vineyards. It is often the base of blends with other Aostan natives.
