Pallagrello Bianco

Pallagrello bianco is a white wine grape native to the province of Caserta in Campania, historically grown in the hills around the Monte Maggiore and prized at the Bourbon court, where it was planted in the royal 'Vigna del Ventaglio' at the San Leucio estate. It fell into near-oblivion after phylloxera and the twentieth century and was rediscovered and replanted from surviving old vines in the 1990s. It is a distinct variety from both Pallagrello nero and Coda di Volpe, with which it was sometimes confused.

Pallagrello bianco gives dry white wines of straw-yellow color with medium-to-full body, good acidity and notes of citrus, orchard and tropical fruit. It is vinified as a varietal within the Terre del Volturno IGT and by producers of the Caserta hills.
