Malvasia Bianca

"Malvasia Bianca" (with the color qualifier but no further place-name) is used by several Tuscan disciplinari as a grouping label for white Malvasia varieties, distinct from the still-broader bare "Malvasia" (which can include non-white subtypes in other denominations' texts). MASAF's national vine register does not carry a single variety literally named "Malvasia Bianca" without qualification — the registry's actual white-Malvasia entries are the specifically-named varieties Malvasia Bianca di Candia, Malvasia Bianca Lunga, and Malvasia Istriana.

AMBIGUITY NOTE: Valdichiana Toscana's own disciplinare (Art. 2.1) uses the term explicitly as shorthand for all three: 'Malvasia bianca (Malvasia Bianca di Candia, Malvasia Bianca lunga, Malvasia istriana)', confirming the three are treated as distinct registered varieties grouped under one umbrella label there — not synonyms of each other. But Cortona's disciplinare uses the same bare term 'Malvasia bianca' (Art. 2.1, in its Vin Santo blend) without listing which of the three is meant, and its own Art. 9.A2 commentary does not resolve the question either; Montecucco's Vin Santo typology likewise uses the bare term without a 'lunga'/'di Candia'/'istriana' qualifier. Per this rollout's standing practice (same treatment as Val di Magra's bare Groppello and Piemonte's Neretto), this profile documents the ambiguity for those denominations rather than guessing which specific variety is meant.
