Lambrusco Marani

One of the six genuinely distinct MASAF-registered Lambrusco varieties native to Emilia, first mentioned by name in 1825. A vigorous, high-yielding vine with large, long, pyramid-shaped clusters, giving tannic wines with violet, iris, and black-currant character. Now the least widely planted of the historic six, largely because its wines are considered less consistently fruity than Lambrusco Maestri's, though it remains a legally required blend component in several Emilian and Lombard Lambrusco denominations.

In Lombardia, one of four varieties (with Lambrusco Viadanese, Lambrusco Maestri, and Lambrusco Salamino) required to make up a minimum 85% of Lambrusco Mantovano DOC and its twin Provincia di Mantova / Sabbioneta IGT.
