Red grapeAlto Adige (Trentino-Alto Adige), Italy
← Grapes

A brooding, dark red grape of Alto Adige with blackberry, chocolate, and a savory bite.

Its home ground is Alto Adige/South Tyrol rather than Veneto; it reaches Veneto's own denominations only as a minor named component in the cross-regional Valdadige, Vallagarina, and Vigneti delle Dolomiti zones, where the latter's disciplinare calls it the "vitigno a bacca nera principe del Trentino-Alto Adige" (the region's own signature dark grape) and requires it, together with Teroldego, for the 'novello' typology in Trento province.
